You all know I’m a sappy Sally. I am sentimental to a fault, really. That saying, the days are long, but the years are short…does that ever ring more true than when you look back on New Year’s Eve at the last year? And so, as I always do, I’m reflecting, looking through pictures and wondering when the time will ever slow down. I think I know the answer, but I’m gonna hold out hope anyway.

This is the year that…

Brady turned TEN. Our horse suffered a nasty leg injury. He was on complete stall rest for two months.  It was a test of patience. Loyalty. Commitment. And, ultimately, love. Horses are our mirrors, and boy can we learn some mighty lessons from them. Gracie became a teenager AND had the most amazing unicorn cake made for her (thanks, April). Mr. Safety cut his hand wide open and landed himself in the ER. Eeeek. Abby got to stick her toes in the sand, walk in the waves, and collect shells all with her Pap, my dad, by her side.

This is the year that…

We had THE most magical snowfall in APRIL! I got to tour the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, our State Capital Building AND have an overnight field trip to Camp Tecumseh with Brady. Abby learned to ride her bike without training wheels…with her bub by her side. Brady learned to use the weed eater in true Brady fashion.

This is the year that…

Scott and I got to spend the night away from all three kiddos for the first time EVER! And, we got to eat greasy food from an alley at 2 in the morning.  Abby turned NINE! Brady was the Cowardly Lion in the school play. Gracie had her first piano recital. We watched a lot of baseball…a lot, being relative. Pretty sure we are gonna get schooled in what “a lot” actually is this Spring.

This is the year that…

We made SEVEN trips to my grandparent’s farm. They live four hours away so that is no easy task with three kids all involved in various activities. But, WE MAKE TIME for those we hold dear, and those two are up at the top of that list. We got ANOTHER DOG. That makes four now. I love our Winnie girl. We visited with family from both far and near. Gracie got her braces off. Our kiddos started 8th, 5th and 3rd grades. This is the year it became VERY apparent, we don’t have any babies in this house any more.

This is the year that…

We spent precious time at the lake with family and dear friends. Memories that our kids will cherish their entire lives. I came out of “retirement” and coached the 8th grade volleyball team that Gracie was on. I was reminded how much I miss teaching/coaching. I was also reminded of all the reasons I don’t miss it. We spent my birthday in French Lick doing ALL the fun things AND Scott and I celebrated TEN years of marriage! Are you kidding me?!?! Also, we had a cowboy, Tigger and a creepy Raggedy Ann for Halloween.

This is the year that…

We ALL flew to Houston! Abby and I made that journey 4x in one year, but the last trip we took the whole fam. Spent Thanksgiving at the farm, hearts overflowing with gratitude as we celebrated the 70th anniversary of two of the most special people in the whole wide world. We baked cookies, built gingerbread houses, did all the programs, recitals, concerts and celebrated the birth of Jesus with our family.

This is the year that we continued to LIVE, with grateful hearts. To soak up every ounce of goodness. This is the year I found my voice, and used it not just for those in my circle, but for THIS. This is the year, after so many years of thinking about it but dragging my feet, I FINALLY started this blog. I hope, for those who read it, it has made a difference. That my stories, my words, have impacted your lives, for the better. I just want to shine a little light in this world. I hope this year I have done that.

img_1285As we live in this magical bubble called Christmas Break a few days longer, I pray you all have a safe and Happy New Year. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for reading and commenting and showing me so much love this year. I have so much more to write in 2019. Stay tuned, friends.
